The retreat for displaced women raising children with disabilities has taken place!
For almost a year, our team dreamed of giving the women in our community something special — something they truly need, something that would give them strength, inspiration, pleasant memories, and support in a community that becomes a pillar of strength. We dreamed of a retreat for the women in our community — internally displaced women who are raising children with disabilities. Strong, talented, resilient, courageous, generous, patient women who do incredible things for their children every day and at the same time need to recharge, reset, and take time for themselves.When you keep your dream in focus, the opportunity to realize it will surely come. That is exactly what happened. The opportunity came in the form of grant support from the charitable organization International Charitable Foundation “Time to Serve”. Our project, “Mental Recovery for IDP Women Raising Children with Disabilities,” was supported by the foundation, after which we began active preparations.We could only invite 12 women to the retreat, but there were five times as many who wanted to participate. The questionnaires included the question: “When was the last time you had a vacation without your children?” Most mothers raising children with disabilities had not had a vacation without their children since their birth; in some cases, the last time was 17 years ago. The need that we constantly see and hear in the work of the NGO “Litay” was fully confirmed. Therefore, the retreat became an extremely important event for these women.The team prepared the retreat with special attention: we wanted to “warm up” the mothers, give them practical self-help tools that would remain useful after the trip, and involve them in a community where support, development, and exchange of experience would help in their daily lives.In a picturesque location on the shores of the Kyiv Sea, where the scenery itself is natural therapy, two specialists worked with the participants:Olga Arseniy, manager of the “Mom Has Wings” project of the NGO “ Litay,” and Kateryna Romanenkova, trainer, life coach, and neurographics instructor.The journey that the retreat participants embarked on gave the women real wings — wings of inspiration. It proved once again a simple truth: Moms have wings. You just need to help them feel them.The retreat was funded by a grant from the Support for Community-Led Initiatives (SCLR) project in partnership with Christian Aid and Time to Serve.
NGO “Litay” is now on GlobalGiving!
We are happy to share some important news — our project “Support Children with Disabilities in Ukraine” has been registered on the international platform GlobalGiving — one of the world's largest communities supporting public initiatives.
This is an opportunity to tell the stories of “Litay” families to the world — stories of families raising children with disabilities and often facing double challenges: living in a war zone and lacking access to the necessary support.
Today, there are over 230,000 children with disabilities in Ukraine, and many families are left alone to face the challenges they encounter on a daily basis, which have been intensified by the war. We want to change that.
Our project provides:
- inclusive educational and therapeutic programs involving art therapists, speech therapists, rehabilitation specialists and psychologists;
- psychological and social support for mothers raising children with disabilities;
- home care services for families who are unable to visit the centre.
We aim to reach 200 families in Kyiv, creating a safe, inclusive environment where both children and parents can grow and recover.
We welcome any support: donations, sharing this information on social media and among friends!
Together, we can ensure that families facing many challenges are not left alone, but feel our support!
Growing Together: An Integration Support Program for Women IDPs with Children and Women Raising Children with Disabilities in the Community
We have great news! The NGO Litay has received a grant from NGO Crimea SOS and has already started implementing it this month.This initiative was created to unite, support, and empower women who found themselves in difficult life circumstances due to the war.
Within the project, the following activities have already started:Case management — individual support for women and families who receive needs assessment, psycho-emotional assistance, and guidance on community integration.Group meetings — art therapy, work with a psychologist, and family events that create space for recovery and mutual support.Online mutual support chat — more than 160 participants are already sharing experiences daily, receiving advice, and feeling that they are not alone.Development of an interactive children’s guide “Notebook of Inner Strength” — a resource for children from among IDPs and children with disabilities that will help them build inner resilience and restore a sense of safety.
The focus of the project is on women raising children with disabilities and women among internally displaced persons. We work to ensure that they feel not only care but also have new opportunities for integration, development, and self-realization.
Kyiv is one of the largest communities that has welcomed hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people. Our mission is to make this space safe, friendly, and inclusive for everyone.
